The top buying guide to Generac generators

As a company that's been around since 1959, Generac Power Systems has had plenty of time to polish their technology and build a good reputation.

They provide a broad variety of generators, ranging from small portable units to large standby models, which are widely used across the country.

Generators are useful in a wide range of circumstances. Generac power systems are perfect to have on hand in the event of a power outage due to a natural disaster or even a planned construction disruption.

Campgrounds and off-grid living can also benefit from the deployment of these devices. In addition, they offer first-rate customer support.

Generac - The brand

By industry experts, Generac generators are considered to be among the best on the market.

This article will help you understand why.

Customers believe that Generac is the most reliable and well-known brand of generators. The company is known for its high-quality and reliable emergency power solutions for industrial and residential use.

Generac Generators is widely considered to be the leading manufacturer of household generators, with a market share of more than 75%. Generac generators have a power range that rivals any of its competitors.

Their industrial generators are used in hospitals, data centers, schools and supermarkets as well as hotels and restaurants to provide power. Generac also sells water pumps and pressure washers.

How to choose the best Generac generator

If you've done your research, you should have a good idea of which Generac model is right for you. In order to make things clearer, here are some things I think it will be useful for you to consider:

What are you going to use it for?

In the end, the most critical consideration is what you plan to use your generator for. A tiny and quiet inverter generator is your best bet if you're looking for a generator to power your gadgets while you're out camping. Do you need enough power to run all of the power tools on a job site?

A far more powerful generator will be required. Once you know how you intend to use the generator, it will be simple to find a suitable model.

How noisy is it?

The bigger a generator is, the louder it will tend to be. While this seems like it is the end of the story, it's far from over.

Because inverter generators are quieter than equivalent standard generators, and despite the fact that they could both run on the same fuel, the noise levels produced by the two models are vastly different. Inverter generators are the best option if noise is a concern.

How portable do you need them to be?

Most of the generators we will look at below, in theory, are transportable. Some, on the other hand, are a lot simpler to work with than others. Do you need to transport your generator in the back of a truck to various jobs?

Because of that, a 400-pound behemoth may not be as portable as it appears despite the draw handle and wheels.

It's easier to take inverter generators with you because they're smaller and lighter. Of course, they can't give the same amount of power. Consider the total weight of a generator, compared to the power it will give you.

How powerful does it need to be?

You're going to buy a generator for one purpose: to create power. Even if every generator does this to some level, the degree to which each one does so varies.

A house or a construction site can't be powered by an inverter generator. If you only need to power your devices from your tent, an inverter generator can be all you need.

You may need a lot of electricity depending on how many devices you plan to run at once. In these cases, a generator rated at least 10,000 amps will be necessary.

The Generac Generator Reviews

Several Generac generators will be examined in this article to give you a sense of the quality that this well-known brand offers.

Generac GP2200i

Generac GP2200i 2,200-Watt Quiet Portable Inverter Generator with Storage Cover 50ST CARB/CSA

The Generac GP2200i is an excellent choice if you want a generator that is quiet, portable, and economical to run. If you're looking for a portable generator that weighs less than 50 pounds, you've found it!

It has a low power output of 2,200 watts, if that is too low, and you want to triple your power, you can connect two inverters in parallel. A parallel configuration may be cheaper and more versatile to you than buying a larger unit.

The eco mode allows for low-power, low-noise operations. That this generator is almost absolutely silent is a big positive. It was also one of the quietest versions we examined, making it an excellent choice for outdoor camping.

It ran for more than 10 hours on a single gallon of gas at a 25 percent load, demonstrating how fuel-efficient it was. Plastic case was the only significant issue we had with it, as it wasn't designed to sustain any kind of harm.

If you take proper care of this equipment, it should serve you for many years. The Generac GP2200i portable inverter generator comes highly recommended by me.

Generac GP3000i

Generac GP3500iO Open Frame RV Ready Inverter Generator - 3500 Starting Watts with PowerRush Technology

Small portable generators that can still supply enough electricity can be hard to come by, but the Generac GP3000i inverter generator fits the bill perfectly. This generator, despite its portability, generates enough electricity to run the majority of common household appliances.

An engine of 149cc produces 3000 start-up watts and 2300 operational watts in the GP3000i generator. During a power outage, this will offer enough power to charge a major appliance or a number of lower-wattage devices.

Tailgating, camping, or using a few power tools on the construction site are all possible uses for this generator.

Depending on what the generator is meant for in terms of primary application, you might expect 2-6 outputs from this size generator. This allows you to supply a wide selection of goods with 5 amazing outlets on the GP3000i, without tripping the system.

Chargers and other small electronic devices can be plugged into the two 5VDC USB ports. To accommodate larger items that require a larger connector, the 120V 30A L5-30R twist lock outlet is an excellent choice because of its flexibility.

In addition, this Generac generator is parallel ready, allowing you to connect one extra GP3000i generator for even more power and outlets.

The fuel tank is normally smaller in generators of this size. 10.75 hours of run duration is possible with a 1.2 gallon gasoline tank at 25% load. Small appliances can be kept running throughout the day or nighttime with this device.

Generac 5939 Generator

Generac 5939 Generator, Portable, 5500 Watt, Manual Recoil Start, Gasoline

Among the portable generators, the Generac GP5500 is one to consider if you need enough power but don't want to break the bank. Despite being at the lower end of the pricing spectrum, this is still a good machine.

A 7-gallon tank of gas lasts 10 hours of operation, which is better than many other models, but it isn't the most fuel-efficient model available. Only 180 pounds and equipped with two wheels makes this one of Generac's most portable full-sized generators.

Although the pricing was right, the power isn't enough for a huge construction site or a house. However, it may be adequate for a tiny office or as a fallback for a small house. We ran into some problems when the carburetor's plastic choke lever broke.

This is a rather typical issue with this particular model. The GP5500 seems to have a shorter lifespan than the other models in the line, but is still one of the best generators of its size in the market today.

Generac GP8000E Generator

Generac 7676 GP8000E Portable Generator, Orange, Black

In terms of size, the Generac GP8000E is a step up from the smaller generators. This generator is a larger portable generator that can do practically any duty.

It's tough enough to use on the job site, but it also has all the capabilities you need to use it as a backup at home or in an RV.

When it comes to power generation, Generac's latest generator, the Generac GP8000E (420cc air-cooled), will have the ability to provide up to 10000 operational and 8800 starting watts.

As long as you have enough electricity, you'll be able to run a large amount of equipment at once. Additionally, a whole RV may be powered by it with ease.

More outlets will be available because of the generator's bigger size and power output. On generators of this size, smaller outlets, like as USB connections, are not common.

The GP8000E generator comes with four 120V 20A GFCI 5-20 outlets and one 30A L14-30R twist lock outlet. As a result, a splitter is not required, and a large number of appliances can be used simultaneously.

Because of its size, this generator has a 7.9-gallon fuel tank. The generator will be able to run at 50% load for up to 11 hours. As a result, it is ideal for those who need to keep their air conditioning or heating systems running overnight.

Generac 5802 Generator

The Generac 5802 gas-powered portable generator has a lot of handy features and can provide 10,000 watts of power when needed.

However, the 5802 lacks the power of devices in its price range, despite being as large, loud, and hefty as the competition. For this reason, it is not as good value for money as some of the other Generac generators but it still does offer good value.

The one-touch electric start makes it easy to get going. The outlets are all covered to keep them safe from the weather.

Personally I prefer to have a range of smaller portable generators, with much larger standby generators. If you cannot afford a range of generators then this could be for you. It is technically portable, but could run a house for emergency preparedness situations.

Generac GP15000E Generator

Generac 5734 GP15000E 15000 Running Watts/22500 Starting Watts Electric Start Gas Powered Portable Generator

This Generac “portable” generator with one of the biggest output capacities, the GP15000E excels in commercial settings, such as construction sites. This amount of power is more than most home users need, unless you plan to install a backup power setup for the entire house.

The 992cc engine of this portable generator generates the greatest power of any on the market. With 15,000 watts of power and 22,500 starting watts, you should have no problem powering an entire house, an RV or even an entire construction site.

Generac 5734 GP15000E 15000 Running Watts/22500 Starting Watts Electric Start Gas Powered Portable Generator

When you have a generator of this magnitude, you can count on having a boat load of outlets. I've never seen a generator with as many outlets as this one, which has nine.

You'll also get two L5-30L 30A twist lock outlets on a single 125/230V power supply as well as one 125/220V 30A L14-30R twist lock outlet, one 125/220V 14-50R outlet, and one 12VDC 10A outlet.

With a fuel capacity of 16 gallons, this generator can run for up to 10 hours at 50% load. The battery life of 10 hours is impressive and will provide you some much-needed peace of mind, in stressful situations like power outages.

Generac Guardian 24kW Standby Generator

Generac Guardian 24kW Home Standby Generator with PWRview Transfer Switch Wi-Fi Enabled

When it comes to supplemental electricity for the home, air-cooled generators are the most popular choice. Easy to maintain and economical, this generator is a good choice.

The Generac Guardian 24kW is the largest air-cooled generator on the market, providing up to 24,000 watts of power when connected to a propane fuel source.

Homeowners looking for a generator that can keep up with the increased demand for electricity will be interested in this powerful model. It also includes Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing you to monitor the unit's operation from anywhere.

This common generator design maximizes power production while occupying the least amount of floor space possible. Size-wise, it's a bit larger than most portable generator models, but it'll still fit next to a standard-sized home and garden/yard.

Also included is a Quiet-Test weekly self-test mode that operates at just 57% of its normal volume. During normal operation, the generator emits 67 decibels of noise, which is average for a generator of this power but still impressive.

For this model, there is no transfer switch included, therefore you will need to purchase one separately.

Final thoughts on Generac generators

Now that you know what a Generac generator is and why it has such a good name, you should feel good about buying one for your needs. Whether you need a 2000-watt generator or a backup generator for your office building, Generac can help.

As with all important purchases, do as much research as possible and be fully informed about making a purchase. I am a big fan of Generac generators, but you may find another brand that suits your needs better and that's OK.
